How do you exfoliate the face without irritating the skin?

If a person has a breakout, how do they exfoliate without aggravating it even further?....How do you exfoliate the face without irritating the skin?
Use a cold compress to calm the skin where the break outs are. You can mix a bit of baking soda and some water, make it into a paste-like substance, and use that to gently exfoliate your skin. Use your finger tips and GENTLY massage in small circles on your face. Hope this helps. How do you exfoliate the face without irritating the skin?
Wait till the breakout stops. Use chemical exfoliators. The brand DDF on Sephora.com has some. Ingredients like glycolic acid, etc.

I recommend seeing a dermatologist if you're constantly breaking out.

Exfoliation certainly helps prevent some zits, it doesn't do anything for existing zits, though.
I have very sensitive and acne prone skin. Heres what I do:

I wash my face first with Biore Pore Unclogging Scrub It's good to use warm water with a washcloth and dab your face with it. The i use St Ives Swiss Formula Apricot Scrub Invigorating For All Skin Types. I then dab my face with kind of cold water. The reason why you use warm and then cold is because the warm loosens up pores and the cold shuts them tight! It works like a charm. I also use proactive too. For a mask you could use St Ives Firming Massk Mieral Clay For all Skin Types. It's cool because it shows you your pores!
Alba organics makes a GREAT exfoliant, called Papaya Enzyme Facial Mask. It's great for any skin type.
gently
if you have sensitive skin you only scrub area less than 60 seeconds and rinse with warm water and pat dry with towel not rub and then lotion it. http://cgarcia1.qbeautyzone.com/products鈥?/a>

Apply Artistry Skin Refinishing Lotion and your favorite Artistry treatment products and moisturizer.

Use 2鈥? times weekly or less often if skin is sensitive. Do not apply to delicate tissue around the eyes or on broken skin. The Artistry MicroExfoliation Cloth is not intended for use with chemical exfoliants or peels. Allow some time after exfoliation before applying products containing vitamin A derivatives or retinols.
